Delete your account and data
Last modified: 2026-09-27
Current status
Bookgeist offers an optional account for connected features. Core library and reading features remain local and can be used without an account.
How to delete the account
- Open Bookgeist.
- Go to Settings → Account.
- Tap Delete account.
- Confirm the operation. If you used Sign in with Apple, Bookgeist will also request that authorization be revoked where possible.
Account access is blocked once the request is accepted, and deletion normally completes immediately. If a service is unavailable, deletion continues automatically and the app displays a reference for follow-up.
If you no longer have the app installed, email [email protected] from the address associated with the account, using the subject “Delete account”. We will verify your identity before processing the request.
If Apple does not provide a revocable credential—for example, on Android or a device where Sign in with Apple is unavailable—Bookgeist does not block deletion of the account or its data. The app will instruct you to remove access manually in Apple device Settings → Apple Account → Sign-In & Security → Sign in with Apple → Bookgeist → Stop Using, or from Android/a computer at account.apple.com → Sign-In & Security → Sign in with Apple.
What is deleted
Except where legal retention obligations apply, the process deletes:
- The Bookgeist account, associated email, and access sessions.
- Personal data, jobs, uploads, and results linked to the account in Bookgeist AI services.
- Cloud backups and objects linked to the account in Bookgeist cloud storage.
- The purchase profile linked to the account in Bookgeist services.
- Bug reports sent from the account, with their screenshots.
- The associated RevenueCat customer profile.
- Sign in with Apple authorization when Apple provides a revocable credential; otherwise, you must remove it manually using the steps above.
Data stored locally on the device is not removed by the server-side process. To delete it as well, uninstall the app or clear its data from system settings.
What may be retained and for how long
None of the following records contains your name, email, or library content, and none is used for any other purpose.
- Technical identifiers. For approximately 30 days, minimal pseudonymous technical identifiers may be kept solely to prevent account recreation and to complete, verify, or re-apply deletion. They are then deleted automatically. If a provider suffers a prolonged outage, they may be kept until deletion is verified.
- Technical deletion record. So that an operation started before deletion cannot store data for the account again, we keep a minimal record with a pseudonymous account identifier, a reference to the deletion operation, and its status. It may be kept for more than 30 days: we delete it once no operation started before deletion can store data for the account again, or once another verified mechanism achieves the same result without keeping it. We review the need at least once a year. The privacy policy explains its legal basis and how to object.
- Record of your request. We keep a pseudonymous reference to the request and its status for up to 24 months, for support and to be able to show that we handled it. It is then deleted automatically.
- Recovery history and technical logs. Your data may remain for up to 30 days after your request in the technical recovery history of our databases, which is not used for ordinary activity. If we ever had to restore it, we would re-apply the recorded deletions. Technical operating logs are kept for short periods, normally 7 days at most.
- Providers. Apple, Google, RevenueCat, or other payment providers may retain transaction records under their own tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, or legal obligations and policies.
Subscriptions and purchases
Deleting the account or RevenueCat profile does not automatically cancel a subscription billed by App Store or Google Play. Subscriptions must be cancelled through the relevant store. Refunds and purchase-record retention are governed by Apple or Google policies.
Timeframe
We try to complete deletion immediately and automatically retry anything still pending. In all cases, we respond to your request without undue delay and within one month of receiving it at the latest. If its complexity or the number of requests means we need up to two more months, we will tell you, with the reason, within the first month.
